MikeyPod 220 | Activist Christopher Sebastian and Author Robin Raven

I’ve got two great guests for you on the podcast this week! First I talk with longtime vegan and social justice advocate Christopher Sebastian. Christopher and I talk about intersectionality and two of his articles: A Seven-point Plan to Disrupt White Supremacy and U.S. American Exceptionalism, and A Guide for Confronting White Fragility When Having Discussions About Race. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Christopher and what he has to say, so I was really thrilled to have him on the podcast. Next, I spoke with author Robin Raven about her beautiful new children’s book from Vegan Publishers, Santa’s First Vegan Christmas. Robin is a freelance writer who has been published by The Huffington Post, The Malibu Times, Friends of Animals, to name a few.

MikeyPod 219 | Modern Troubadour Nate Maingard

I am so excited about this new connection I have with South African musician Nate Maingard. I came across him sort of peripherally via this video from Patreon, and then we had a mini-conversation in the comments of a Patreon post which then led me to his Patreon page where I fell in love with his work and his great spirit. Nate has been playing guitar, writing songs and appearing on stage since 1998 and has been playing as a professional musician since the beginning of 2011. Nate was awarded a South African National Arts Festival Ovation Award and has played many of South Africa’s festivals.
Nate and I got into a great conversation about creating art and exchanging with our audiences that was incredibly timely for me. I think this is a great conversation for creators and audience members alike. Definitely check this one out, and share! This is a perfect time to become a patron of Nate’s, he is working on a new EP and planting TREES! Support his work here.

45- Funky Diva

In a traumatic night of unbelievable circumstance, this week’s My Favorite Murder features the story of Lord Lucan and the mystery of the Summerhill Road Murders.

MikeyPod 218 | Minister Micah Bucey

I am so grateful and proud to know a spectacularly glittery person like Micah Bucey. He’s Associate Minister at historic Judson Memorial Church here in New York City where he has shepherded many artists (like me!) into the performing world. His kindness and insight seems unlimited, and I am just so pleased to have him as my guest on the podcast this week.
Micah and I chatted a bit about where we go next as queer, artist-y, left-of-center folks, especially in light of the news of our President Elect. We talked about communities, spiritual and otherwise, and the events of his life that led him to become a minister.
I hope you enjoy the show, and please do tell a friend, leave a review on iTunes, and subscribe using the applicable links in the column to the left of this page!

MikeyPod 217 | Filmmaker, Comedian, and Vine Star Jason Nash

When I got obsessed with watching Vine videos a few years ago, Jason Nash was one of the first people I started to follow. There are a ton of brilliant creators on Vine, each crafting great stories in these little 6 second looping videos. Jason’s humor and self-awareness about being an old guy famous on an app populated largely by millennials was especially appealing to this old guy who was fascinated with an app populated largely by millennials.
I was excited to have the chance to talk to Jason about his new feature film, FML, along with his experience working with MTV, Saturday Night Live, and Comedy Central. We also talked about bit about where his social media world is headed now that Vine has announced its plans to shut down.
Have a listen, subscribe, tell a friend, and let me know what you think of this episode. Thanks for listening!
