MikeyPod 229 | Composer Ben Brody

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of seeing MADArt Creative‘s Inner Reaches: Year II, the second installment of a performance series that sought to serve as a chronicle of the quantum universe through dance, music, and design. Ben Brody composed music for this dance piece to be played by drummer Ian Chang using Sensory Percussion by Sunhouse. The performance was phenomenal, and I was thrilled to get to talk to Ben about his extraordinarily diverse work.

Visit Ben Brody’s website, and follow him on Soundcloud, Bandcamp, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

MikeyPod 228 | Musician Christopher Willits

There are few artists who inspire and thrill me like Christopher Willits. His oceanic, shimmering music is a perfect representation of the kind and open human he proves himself to be each time I talk with him. We chat here about his soundtrack work on the new film The Art of Listening, in which he is also a subject. Christopher’s work has a decidedly meditative quality, and it was fun to scratch the surface of the music and talk about his spiritual relationship to his work. Christopher’s approach toward composition seems to be a practice in both creating intention and in letting go.
My own creative work has been directly influenced by Christopher — I literally would not be doing the type of electronic music I do now without Christopher’s influence — so I have a special fondness and appreciation for what he does. I feel honored to talk with him here, and I know you’ll love this fascinating conversation.

The Art of Listening is available to watch for free on its website and on YouTube.

MikeyPod 227 | Writer, Filmmaker, and Actor Emmett Jack Lundberg

Emmett Jack Lundberg is the creator of the fantastic Brothers, the first narrative series about a group of transgender masculine friends.  Emmett and I talked about the history of the show, and then dug deeper into a discussion about gender roles and how we are each affected by them. I really enjoyed discussing our shared experiences as transgender and cisgender men, and I always dig talking creativity with artists who make work I love. I am so thrilled to bring you this ridiculously spectacular interview and I can’t wait for you to hear it.
In the beginning of the show, I talk about my motivation to create an archive of my work at archive.org.  I’ve been having some thoughts about a false narrative I have unknowingly created for myself so I am expressing an intention to shed that and move into more authenticity. I think many of us have a tendency to “hide our light” (if you’ll allow the biblical reference) so maybe there is something here for you to relate to as well.
Visit Emmett Jack Lundberg’s website, and follow him on Patreon, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
Watch Brothers on Amazon Prime or Vimeo on Demand, and follow the show on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube as well.
