Award winning queer writer/performer Kim Katzberg and I went deep in this conversation! We talk about her latest solo show, Dad in a Box, which follows her struggle to gain access to her emotional core, while she attempts to process the just-announced impending death of her abusive father. Kim and I talked over-sharing, healing grief through making theater, and holy smokes, so much more!
Kim Katzberg is an award-winning queer theater artist who has has been creating genre-bending solo work since 2010. Of her 2011 breakout show Penetrating The Space, the NY Times wrote, “Penetrating the Space has a glowing, vulnerable, haunting center.” Dad in a Box is Katzberg’s latest, winning a NY Innovative Theatre Award for “Outstanding Solo Performance” in 2019.

I’m so excited to welcome T Cooper back to the podcast this week to discuss his award winning documentary film, Man Made, which traces the lives of four transgender men as they prepare to step on the stage at the only trans bodybuilding competition in the world. T and I discuss his motivation toward making the film and the path that led him from author to director, and his experience making his first feature length film.
T Cooper is the author of seven novels, including the best-selling The Beaufort Diaries and Lipshitz Six, or Two Angry Blondes, as well as co-author (with Allison Glock-Cooper) of the recent four-part young adult novel series entitled Changers.
